Changes in Las Palmitas0
A Mexican government project has helped one of its communities live up to its nickname. Las Palmitas is located in Pachuca, the capital of the state of Hidalgo. It is nicknamed “La bella airosa,” which means the beautiful breezy city. In spite of its meaning, the city was notorious for its high rates of juvenile delinquency and unemployment.

So, a group of graffiti artists called German Crew painted a cluster of 209 houses with various colors and patterns. They spent 14 months completing the project. Seen from a distance, it has a swirly rainbow design. The design represents the wind related to Pachuca’s nickname.
Changes in Las Palmitas4
The project has revitalized La Palmitas and resulted in positive outcomes for residents. The rate of juvenile delinquency has been reduced, and the local economy was given a boost as more people were hired for the project.

Now, Palmitas has been reborn into Mexico’s beautiful, largest mural: El Macro Mural Barrio de Palmitas.
